They say that the only thing you can count on in life is change. If that is so then chapter 11 is a pretty important chapter. Martha Beck begins the chapter by sharing her visual representation of the change cycle. She discusses the types of catalytic events that put the cycle in motion and then the four stages you move through. My big take away from this chapter is that you need to get comfortable with change and that change is a cyclical cycle. In other words, it never stops. If you are not making at least minor adjustments to your life, you are not moving forward. After reading this chapter I can see the importance of knowing what to expect at each stage of the cycle. Also, understanding that parts of the cylce will be easier to navigate than others depending on your personality and personal strengths. Without a doubt I am a stage 2 specialist! I am a dreamer. I can spend hours creating vision boards and and talking about my dreams, but when it is time to get real and put things into action I am not so sure footed. I must not have been ready for this chapter at the time of my first reading because I have no recollection of it. I do think I am ready to dig in a little deeper here. I am looking forward to the final chapters where she will be going into more depth of each stage of change.
I know I haven't talked about chapter 10, but I think I can the boil it down to a simple message: The better you know yourself, the better your intuition will be.
I would love to know if there is anything so far in the book that you felt, "Oh I got this." or "This is what I need." I do think books say different things to us at different times depending on where we are in life. Hopefully if you are reading along you are finding some nuggets that add value to your life.
